Peak means there is a way up and a way down - it doesnt mean it is finite. What the man says is true. It's called "peak"? to point out the difference between cheap oil and costly oil. Basically for mankind it's almost the same, because to extract the same oil we're using today, say, twenty years from now, it will cost twice as much. And someone has to pay for it. Eventually, it becomes like any other source of energy nowadays: the energy you spend to get it is not enough to cover the investment

The U.S. has peaked? What about the? untapped reserves, Alaska currently off limits, many offshore locations including the coast of California that are off limits, and the slow down in shale because of the incredibly low prices (which will speed up again as demand grows). Peak oil can't be estimated because we don't know and can't know how much more oil will be found, what technology will be invented, what depths we will be drilling at, etc.

whether we see the end of oil, or peak oil or whatever, the real goal for humankind, is to make the switch to renewable energy, what I like to call, the eternal sources of energy, wind solar, geothermal. Even Noe van Hulst admits that the oil will go up in price. Rises in price might be enough to bring drastic changes to the economy.? Also, even if the technology can be improved fast enough to sustain our oil consumption, it only delays the problem. Oil is finite. It increases human development a bit to the cost of our environment. It does nothing good for humanity in the long term. The faster we switch to renewable and cleaner energy sources the better. I don't see why you try to defend oil.
