Over time and after looking at the situation from different perspectives I am a bit more open minded. I have always thought that the child's creativity should be encouraged and embraced. I just felt that school was not the appropriate place to allow such attire.

I wonder if this issue has more to do with our ideas about the feminine. I mean why is it ok for a girl to dress and act like a boy at that age (we call them tomboys) but not ok for boys to dress like girls? I wonder if there is this underlying belief that the feminine is inferior to the masculine. I mean, if someone calls u girly or says u do something like a girl...its an insult! i know I'm so late on? responding but concerning my 4 yr old this is just on time. My son loves the color pink, likes princesses and cars. I say whatever, he's 4 yrs old. But I recieve these side remarks from others who gives the "look" at me and my husband as if he's gay. First off if that was the case, I'm gonna love him the same no matter what. That doesn't bother me. What does bother me is these ignorate people do. I stopped telling him he should like a boy color or not like princesses.

I don't think it's anybody's business? if your child wants to wear a dress at home or in public. It seems like the parents love their child very much and just want him to learn to love himself at an early age. I would not want my child on the tv shows, just because people are so crazy, but writing a book about it seems a bit unnecessary. I dont use it cause its gel, mousse and putty but the packaging is really cool. I havent been able to find it anywhere else(the specialty v05 products) I think I may have gotten the repair and protect at giant eagle(grocery store) once. hth

Paddle brush is my absolute favorite for my bi-weekly degtangling on my shampoo days. It does a great job doing a thorough detangle. Believe it or not, it was a friends shop. His wife's hair is natural and he always? trims her up nicely, I was so disappointed because I had retained 8 months of growth, record breaking growth. I am back on track though. What is funny though, is that others thought it was intentional, and I received tons of compliments, but I hated it. All is well now, because it is growing back nicely. I just got tired of my hair feeling stiff and started looking for alternate ways to style it so that it would be as soft as? possible. I find that it is still pretty well defined with the conditioner only but it is also soft instead of stiff or crunchy, it also seems a little less tangled w/o gel. I love eco actually but now I only use it for slicking my edges with ponys and puffs and things

Thanks for such a great video. I used to wet my hair down almost everyday, last year and I do believe that the moisture contributed to my fast growth. i tried finger detangling for like 3-4 months this year, but because I wear my hair mostly in twist/some style that requires parting, I had to return to my shower comb because the ends would stick together and make it harder to separate the hair into sections. I still finger detangle on the more fragile/frizzier sections though (they have less curl so it's not hard to? part those sections). I did enjoy it though for those 3-4 months. it was faster and i learned a lot about my hair that way

me too:-) Im 3c/4a mostly with a few looser areas. Another thing that helps is a deep protein conditioner, it strengthens the follicle and defines the curl, thats IF you dont use alot of protein. If you do, that could? be a reason for dryness, excessive protein will dry the hair out. hth

I'd just like to say that your hair is wonderful; the health that I see in yours is what I aspire to achieve :) Mine is about the same length and the same curl pattern, but MUCH thicker, so it takes more of EVERYTHING (I think) to get? it even remotely cooperative haha. I believe that those responses are based on how the person feels about themselves-maybe not realizing that they themselves are more than just hair. I now live in a small town in? southern Georgia. My natural hair community is pretty limited. Most naturals are only here for college. The true local naturals always ask me questions about my hair, even licensed cosmetologists. I get compliments all the time, but unlike youtube, curlynikki, and the like curly envy and the good (better)/bad hair grade system are embedded into their mindset. They always say that my hair is better grade than theirs. I hate that.

Without getting too technical its something about the weight of the hair and the saft being closed. moisture fills the shaft and keeps strands from reaching out for water which is what frizz is. I also do a cold water rinse to close the cuticle in the shower, when I rinse out my cowash I rinse with cold water which closes the cuticle? and makes it as smooth as it can be.

As far an my nat. hair community in NJ- There is none. Most of the women are weave junkied and relaxer junkies. i have only one friend that is natural and we support each other. My problem is this. I want to support any natural woman I see and was doin that till i got stung so many times to find out they were wearing curly nappy weaves or wigs. They never said anything about my hair after me complimenting their weave/wig. So? when I see a natural I an cautious and may not say annything. Sad rite?

lol- you know you are welcome anytime! it was really fluffy and? full and it got bigger over the next day. I really like it. It took me so long to perfect that Im a lil burnt out on it but I will definately use it again in the future. I loved the way the ends looked and especially felt. I stopped doing braid and twist outs b4 bcause my ends were getting tangled, that doesnt happen with this technique.

I broke down and washed it.lol I couldnt take it any more, my hair felt soooo dirty it was unreal and I was getting flakes. eeew. I did try this with my wet curly hair tho so I will do a vid tomorrow to show how it comes out, seems like it'll do quite a bit of stretching, we'll see. ?

i was just thinking...maybe two sections would have been better for the back..but also you have a lot of product in your hair from the week, it could be just weighed down more in the back...i hear ya..i just washed my hair..its such a chore at times...if u r going to try it again, try not? to apply anything(water, oil, etc) and see what results you get..

that is gorgeous on you , gives you a sultry look lol :). I really like braidouts.. if? you have trouble with the ends (when doing a braidout) without the satin you can always use perm rods on the end. They make a major difference in how it turns out for me at least :)

I love how your hair looks and I think if you let it go for a day and not pin curl it anymore, then it might get that "non-manufactured" look you want. I also think that it's great to have the option of straightening your hair and knowing that you can do it well. @theinnercreative I havent seen anyone yet (except my son) who knows me both ways, he liked it tho:-) I actually like it curly best. I have to admit Im having a good time wearing it straight this time because it actually came out right.lol This is my 4th straight experience in 2 1/2yrs so itll last as long as it does and I probably wont do it again till another 6-12mos. I? just wore a shower cap and that worked well, I dont get super steamy in the shower so it was fine. Thanks for watching:)

I actually tried? something new too! Uncle Funky's Daughter's Curl Magic for my wash n go's vs using the Kinky Curly Custard.. And I really liked it! It dried really soft. And I can move my hair! You'rs look really good. Your twist outs ALWAYS look good.

Maybe with bigger braids, like 2 or 4 instead of 9. 2 up and 2 down or one on each side. It could also be the cut. Hope you? had a fabulous thanksgiving!

Well it has been a problem area for abt the past 5 yrs. when I was relaxed I used to color my whole head and the top was thinner/thinning. However when I first went natural the top of my hair got thicker and I thought going natural had solved the problem but I think it was just the fact that my hair was short and hadnt dropped yet. Oh well, I guess its good for me to stop coloring? anyway, God knows I dont want to be one of those old ladies with the see-thru hair.lol

If you want to research what will work for you, go to Mehandi.com. They have some great info. The grey hairs that I do have turn into a copper /red color. In the light my hair does show a red/burgdy tone, but after awhile I started adding coffee grinds to my mix so that my hair would be more chocolate tone. I would use the indigo if you? want black. While it can be drying, follw up with a deep moisturizing conditioner and you should be fine. They usually recommend aplying oil to your hair or mix

I was on mehandi.com and read that you can do an? indigo rinse on the gray to darken the roots. I dont know how your gray is but mine is white on top and at the temples, its single strand everywere else. I think I will try henna and indigo combo and then do rinses over that. and also keep up my blk tea rinses and hopefully that will do the trick. Thanks for the advice it is really helpful:-)

i had a light bulb moment about dying my hair too. I noticed my ends were really really dry and frizzy. I did try the finger detangling (which I love and will do from now on) and trim the split ends.? The results were better but still frizzy on the ends. I decided to stop dying my hair all together.

Oh yeah, my hair now is like a cinnamon brown and more red/burgundy at the ends where I used to use semi permanent color. I did half & half henna/indigo a couple times but still got some red tint. ? My grey hair is a copper red so I can still find those strands but they're not as noticeable (blending in now.) HTH :)

I switched to Henna this year and there definitely is a learning curve. At first attempt I found that it was really good for my scalp. It always imparts a red color though so I tried blending it with indigo a couple of times. I think (but haven't tried yet) the indigo application immediately following a henna treatment will give the most grey coverage. Amla is? another powder that some use to darken hair. The hennaforhair(dot)com site is full of info and also curlynikki.

Ill have to check out the henna/indigo, Im just so afraid of the drying effect it can have. I am doing the wash n go w/o gel, I was referring to my past couple of? vids where I was complaining abt a frizzy spot in the back and it started after I did a deep shampoo and tea rinse,I kept thinking it was the shampoo but then realized its the frizziest spot on my head so its bound to be frizzier without gel . I hope I said that right.lol Ill have to get w/u to talk abt herbal rinses:-)

wow-thank you so much!with my hair I started doing the devacurl technique which is basically a wash-n-go with conditioner only.I think my hair looks fuller because Im not putting gel on it.My skin,your the first to ask abt this Thanks,I use oil of olay moisturizer bcause my grandma used to.lol and lately Ive been putting castor oil around my eyes abt 3-4 x wk because Im doing my eyelashes and eyebrows too.It does seem to decrease fine lines and uber? moisturizing.

im not sure. i doubt its bad since it can be ingested...maybe its more gentle bc i can be ingested? ? or has additives so it can be ingested? i know u mentioned the cold pressed thing so maybe its they way its processed that makes it digestible vs just a moisturizer. might need to google that :) but again i doubt its bad for the hair.

- you are sooo welcome! this makes me so happy that I did this vid:-), I did a little additional? checking and in addition to scar tissue it works for growths and moles, said that it begins to diminish in size and dissapear without leaving a mark, and rejuvenates the melanin in the hair follicle to begn producing color again and minimizes gray-GIRL Im on it too! by the time Im done Ill be 10yrs younger.lol I think they said you should notice in 2-3weeks of daily application.

Ok, i am going to comment about your hair again: i love it!! i had the same experiences with the black tea, it even stained my bathtub, so had good scrubbing sessions afterwards, i was also so surprised that the tea "soaked" up in the hair so well. Excellent research, will continue to do my tea rinses then, i stopped once my shedding diminished, but once or twice a month should be good.? i'm also trying to apply castor oil every other night, especially to my ends and edges.

I thought about this as well, but do you mean the pattern changes and not the texture? Texture is more about the way the hair? or something feels. Pattern would be the way the curl would look as it grows longer, the curls would elongate as your hair grows, which would change the look of your hair pattern because of the weight.

You are right again, my aunt's hair (before? she died of breast cancer, r.i.p) was 3b, but after chemo, it grew straight, like a 2a/b type. she used to joke and say she got a free and permanent relaxer! a friend of mine who gave birth just a few days before me (so, 8 months ago) is going through the same thing and we were talking about it, her predominantly 3a hair only sports a wave now, i haven't found any scientific papers on it as yet, but found something interesting though.

Thats interesting because I have heard abt texture changes from things like pregnancy. When the body goes thru a major hormonal or chemical change.Ive actually heard of peoples hair after chemotherapy and going bald growing back in straight when it used to? be curly.I suppose the distance between protein bonds(which determine size of curl) can change when the body drastically changes.In general tho I think we are right abt the longer it gets the looser it gets.:-)

OMG, this is so timely! i have the same question: my hair is definitely getting looser (and it's not heat damage) as it is getting longer. I came to my own conclusions about it too, and it's the same as you. I do have to say though, since i gave birth, my hair has gotten thinner/finer and looser, b4 i was predominantly 4a, i now find? i am predominantly 3c and some 3b here and there. But for the most part, my hair is getting looser cos it is weighed down more now that it's getting longer! :)
