It is great that things are working out for you. I? myself live in the UK and want to immigrate one day. Unemployment is terrible here and I don't like the British culture. I do agree in following dreams though. I don't want to be a wage slave either, that said however, I don't want to be poor, and I do want a comfortable life without worrying about financial struggle. My only concern is not being able to advance within a career that I find right for me. I was thinking of something scientific.

I think your use of the words control and causation is not helpful. You hint at predictive power which is much more? helpful. For example we don't know what "causes" inertia, but taking inertia as a model with simple properties, it has immense predictive power. So what we learn from that is that is that despite not knowing "control" and "cause" it keeps being right over and over again. In fact all our theories that are not derivative are of this kind.

Incidentally you are not right about Bayesian theory. Yes it can be misused (see Richard Swinburne's apologetic) but if used correctly it is an actual scientific theory itself. Correctly set up Bayesian theory will give the correct statistical answer to the Monty Hall problem, and that is no coincidence. Notice that the Monty Hall problem is physical and we can verify. We understand why Bayesian theory works. The reason why it does work? on physical problems is because it has evidential roots.

I would agree that Ockham's razor is at times overstated. It is not epistemic. And to say that we reject something based on Ockham's razor is a miswording. In reality Ockham's razor simply says if a hypothesis is tight or not. So we get a sense if there are excess assumptions. Future evidence could provide data that require? these assumptions, but until then there is no reason to give them any particular weight. In fact clearly they are more than needed. Tighter hypothesis are easier to refute.

I agree with you about the soldiers- They are good ones and a few? bad.I have family in the military. I was speaking about our government - some who control what we (as a country) are doing and the others who do nothhing and look away. The soldiers are being harmed as well handling all that stuff and all the vaccines, chemicals etc that they are exposed to- too. True, most soldiers are good people with the right motivations but yet there is a lot of rhetoric in the military (and Government politicians) that tries to dehumanize middle eastern? people as less valuable then us, they're not, their lives are just as valuable as an Americans life. I think the rhetoric is a way to deal with the guilt of killing so many innocent people for their cause. I don't think we hurt people on purpose but it's just that our government doesn't care enough.

It's funny how I'm seeing this now as I'm turning 25 myself in 2 days time. I don't think a good definition of belief is "something that is not testable". I understand that there? are different types of definition as you said yourself :colloquial. But there needs to be a kernel or commonality among all of the definitions of belief. I would use "an acceptance of a concept regardless of information." In this case information is irrelevant to an acceptance of the concept. This would cover believing in gravity or believing in a supreme being.

what makes the justice system any more qualified to make a decision regarding the unlawful behaviour of a business than? a politician? They are both mostly lawyers by trade. On that note libertarians seem to miss the fact that placing the burden on the justice system is spreading risk (something they supposedly oppose as socialism). Why should I have to pay for a congested legal system when the burden can be put on the company itself to make it's products safe.

I don't think I heard you cover how bitcoins are created in the first place. ? That would seem like a huge problem/weakness. Also, have you really though about the implications of the fact that every transaction you ever do can be traced right back to you, personally? Then, it would seem, if someone can steal your personal key (which, given the Internet is inevitable), it could be used to forge transactions (like email spammers do to hide their identities), and corrupt the whole system. But, of course, if someone willingly uses only one/few incoming/outgoing addresses, then you can tie them and build statistics. Btw, I think you're wrong about 51% compute power- if someone gains majority, they can double-spend their own coins, not steal yours.

My main concern is the hording instead of using of bitcoins. At this point it seems volatile. Either it could keep? getting bigger and increase in value, and start to be used more widely once easier systems are created for sellers, or the bubble will burst and peoples bitcoins will become worthless. I like the idea of bitcoin. I downloaded the client around a month ago and tested it? with Bitcoin Faucet. It isn't that it bypasses the government (technically you still need to pay taxes), but it does bypass banks, which is what I like most about it. The encryption is supposedly better than current banks, so counter-fitting would at least be very difficult. Also every transaction is public record which leaves a trail of checks and balances. I think you're on to something, but might I suggest that it is the lack of a single or central celebrity figure for the public to focus on that perpetuates the raw? feeling associated with class envy. It's interesting. The US President is both head of Government and head of State - so he actually fulfils both roles. (or is supposed to). Even renters have a right to "quiet enjoyment" of their rental.? If a landlord violates that, the courts have a basis to rule in the renter's favor. In a VP world, ownership and property seem ignored. What would keep someone from using "the" house that you just happen to be raising a family in?

Oh, and I can't say I specifically support the Venus Project... I honestly think it's a pipe dream like every other utopia in history. I just happen to find it a useful fulcrum for expressing how profoundly, deeply and amazingly stupid I find our current way of doing things. I'm not a die hard cynic per se either... I just think that workable is a prerequisite adjective for any? solutions or improvements to our current state of affairs to actually be praiseworthy, ya know?

...really, to me, the only thing that ever truly comes with ownership, is the right to transfer that ownership as a gift or in exchange for money. Every other property right you can imagine is limited for something, somewhere.? I care far more about what I can/can't do, to which stuff that applies, and for how long I can expect the preceding arrangement to go unchanged. Who "owns" it only matters in that our society requires I have a constant stream of money passing through my legal shadow.

I believe that, like many people, you live in an apartment, yes? Do you really feel like you have as much privacy as you'd want? And even most people who live in a house don't own the house... either the bank or a landlord? does. Do they have less privacy than people whose house is paid for? Ownership and rights aren't always conjoined even in our society... ask anyone that owns and lives in a historic landmark, what they are allowed to do with that property is severely limited.

You are very naive, because if we had a society like one big university to test improvements by science, then we must trust that? all the scientists will not abuse their position in order to gain an advantage over others. Greed exists and even what is proposed in the venus project would be corrupted by greed. The only way for it to work is total transparency and oversight by the people. Otherwise you get bogus projects like chemtrails.

If it worked, it wouldn't so much disprove the frame of my economic views, as the venus project could be justified entirely in the framework of? free market economics given the right subjective preferences, but it would change the way I viewed people - i.e. it would change how I viewed the marbles, not the tracks they rolled on.

You sound like an "anarcho-venus project" guy. I simply believe that the venus project won't work,and that it would end up being extremely authoritarian if it ever gets off the ground - based on how all other central planning schemes have panned out. If a stateless society ever came about, I? would watch the VPers' various experiments (knowing that if it were to work it would probably take a few revisions) very closely.

This is interesting. I would disagree a bit on money not being motivating ever past a threshold. For example, I would love to have billions not so I could have 100? mansions, but so I could start a TV station or influence politics in some way. So it may be that money is motivating, then not motivating, then motivating again once it gets to the level where it wields political influence.

Sense of reward comes from getting something that was initially withheld? You get no sense of reward if nothing is withheld , that is the logical contention of your argument. You lose incentive to get stuff by pure satisfaction for work, which makes the desire to produce pale even more in comparison to the desire to consume. Hmm.. i get what you talk about, but i can't help? but think to myself that i do actually spend a lot of time and effort on helping others, both with studies, and at work, but i don't do it because i get anything out of it other than knowing that from their perspective someone made their day a little nicer, and thus might be nice to someone else, perhaps even me :) I guess one could call it catalyzation for the sake of reciprocation, but is that really all there is to it?

Actually your response here reminded me of something in my early youth (around 1970) at my great-grandmother's? house (she was about 87 at the time). Some workers laying brick at the corner of her lot had come up and asked her for some water - because there wasn't any clean tap but from her house - and she directed them toward the creek and said "why don't you drink from that"? I don't think it's a factor of having enough money for "basic" needs. It's about having enough money to be able to CHOSE to spend on your basic needs. The carrot is not the money itself. It's? the free choice that money allows. There's a certain pride in earning ones freedom, instead of having it given to you.

Hi. Very good venus project videos. I'm looking fwd to the next one. I have to disagree with you very slightly on one point. I hope you don't think I'm being pedantic - I think it is important. Money is not really a motivator at all. We like to see it in our wallets/bank accounts, and it has taken on an air of being something desirable in itself, but of course it is only useful if we buy something with it. We can only really be motivated by what we can get with money despite what? we might think.
