Seahorse World (Tasmania Dec-2010) Posted by: jq747
Video duration: 953 seconds This is Seahorse World, at Beauty Point, Tasmania (Australia). As its name implies this facility houses lots of seahorses. Bloody hundreds of the goofy things, of all shapes & sizes. Ah but they're so cute. Later on @10:00 there's some other sea critters too, like cuttlefish and weedy seadragon. Note some rooms were dark so the footage isn't great, but it's ok. Enjoy... Ace Ventura scene in CGI Posted by: jq747
Video duration: 15 seconds An Ace Ventura moment =) I did this in Maya using the most excellent Morpheus rig, big thanks to Josh Burton. Yes I know they're only wearing leotards... clothes were out of the scope of this exercise ;) Related: kpb225, assessment, qut, ace ventura Display Video Comments | Hide Video Comments | Add Comment |

The Gap Creek Flooded 2011 Posted by: jq747
Video duration: 613 seconds The Gap creek, in Brisbane, during the 2011 floods. It's normally a wretched, trickily thing, but now it's in full flood. Good to see I suppose... pity about the rest of the devastation. Later on in the film we see the footpath completely submerged, and some guy on a bike wisely deciding against fording the torrent. Ethacycle Posted by: jq747
Video duration: 184 seconds My assignment for KIB108. It depicts the cycle of ethanol fuel production. Made with Lego stop-frame animation. Probably spent 50-odd hours on it all up, a lot of 3am nights anyway. Some of the labels are a bit hard to read... dang. Thanks to Sound Jay and flashkit.com for the excellent music ;) Related: lego, stop, frame, ethonal, fuel, car, crops, brickflick Display Video Comments | Hide Video Comments | Add Comment |

Brickflick #6 - Little ambulance car Posted by: jq747
Video duration: 4 seconds I'm over the engine, so this one is a little car driving across the screen. Simple enough. I used the same technique as last time, i.e. video taped the entire sequence, then extracted each required still frame and put them all together into an animation. I did everything by dead reckoning, ie. no gridlines. So its a bit jerky, but the effect isn't too bad. Brickflick #4 - Car Engine (again) Posted by: jq747
Video duration: 60 seconds Engine again. I used a different sized cog for my rotational reference (20 teeth vs. 24 teeth) to eliminate the strobing on everything. It worked reasonably well. I'm still not happy with the crappy wandering exposure or the slight camera movements. Note how the shaft on the right doesn't go thru a full revolution ;) Related: lego, brick, flick, stop, frame, animation, 853 Display Video Comments | Hide Video Comments | Add Comment |

Brickflick #2 - Car Engine Posted by: jq747
Video duration: 11 seconds Second attempt at some stop frame. This one using the venerable set #853. I photographed a full revolution of the engine and looped it over. I also bumped the camera :( Note the strobing effect on the cogs, since I was inching the crankshaft by one tooth at a time. Brickflick #1 - Forklift Posted by: jq747
Video duration: 2 seconds My first attempt at stop-frame animation, using Lego (of course). I just took a bunch of stills with my camera, stitched them together on Moviemaker (yes Moviemaker!), and finally Virtualdub to tidy it up. Ok it looks crappy. New England Highway Drive Posted by: jq747
Video duration: 16 seconds Short clip of me driving my dad's XR8 ute, somewhat south of Tamworth. Note the power hump ;) It was a bit foggy that day. Yeah I know mucking around with a camera while driving is incredibly dangerous... still better than talking on a mobile :] Related: new, england, highway, tamworth, falcon, xr8, ute, foggy Display Video Comments | Hide Video Comments | Add Comment |

Kanchanaburi to Bangkok, Thailand Posted by: jq747
Video duration: 180 seconds Just some footage of the bus trip from the Tiger Temple in Kanchanaburi back to Bangkok. It was at this point the huge Laksa I had the night before suddenly hit home... all I can say is, I'm glad there was a toilet on the bus (although some paper would have been nice, too.) Abbey Medieval Festival 2009 - Final Melee Posted by: jq747
Video duration: 96 seconds The final melee! A big bunch of guys all hitting each other over the head. Nice job with the modern political references in the commentary. Abbey Medieval Festival 2009 - Jousting Posted by: jq747
Video duration: 228 seconds The joust, huzzah! The lady knight with the big bum won the day, heheh. (BTW I dunno why the clips are alternately light and dark... I think the sun behind me reflecting off the metal railings in front was screwing with my camera's auto-balance. Friggin annoying.)
