Well a slug cost? 5 times more than standard birdshot, so yeah it's worth it. I still wouldn't attempt it unless I had an improved cylinder or lighter choke though, wich costs around $20-25 so...

People have been using cut shells for nearly 100 years. I've known people that have been doing this for many years without issue. And I have never heard of a shotguns barrel exploding as a result of using a cut shell. You can quote as? much scientific evidence as you want. But what really matters is real world experience.
