You implied it when you said "real hardcore kid," talking about it like you were one. Stop trying to act high and mighty, no one's? impressed. They like the music, and are just having a fun time. If you can't appreciate that, then you don't know what this scene, and music in general is really about. It's supposed to bring people together and give a message. I am a big fan of Steve's Tilston's music, and one concert Martha played support act for him and I thought she was wonderful, very individual with maybe an element of Joni Mitchell thrown in. fantastic. Ref the chords - they're fairly simple - capo on 4th fret, then shapes for C, Am and G - plus you need an Em7 for the 3rd chord in the chorus. So what you got a degree in "one field" just to make profit and didn't actually give you shit about what else you would "have" to learn in order to actually know what the hell you are doing; your banking right? I believe you are describing apparent intelligence not conscious awareness intelligence. Even if an AI system passed the Turing test, it wouldn't confirm if the AI system understood the communication exchange in the way a conscious human might. For instance, a human can distinguish a? joke from a serious statement by it's context relative to common knowledge and experiences. An AI which could get the joke would be intelligent with respect to the Turing test.

In order for a computer to have emotions, it needs to be vulnerable and unable to "handle" certain situations. Essentially, an emotional computer would have to be flawed at? it's core programming, full of the same doubts and uncertainties that haunt us everyday: why are we here, is there a god, etc. This computer would not be very good at solving problems. I personally believe that humans are just very complex natural machines, we respond accordingly to certain inputs from our environment. Artificial machines, I believe, would not be able to ever achieve? the same intelligence because they run on a discrete system making them have a finite number of states. Because there isn't any clear indication given within the film itself as to what the creatures? are, one has to listen to commentary from Spielberg. I first watched this movie in 2006; it is? honestly the saddest, most brutal film I've ever seen. And I've watched a lot of movies. There are so many terrible, awful things that happen that you can't help but sympathize with the mechas & grow to love them, or at least feel their pain. It made me look inside myself & realize what awful things humans are capable of and what darkness we're able to feel- I cried for days after watching this. This film is so underrated.

Anyways, there's a lot of "weird" facts about our moon. It's distance and size is just one example. Apparently it's also about 2? billion years older then earth, rings like a bell as if it were hollow and it's center of gravity is not in the middle. Weird stuff :)

I disagree that I'm hiding behind anything. I simply do not have answers to confirm, deny or prove anything... I just have opinion and speculation. My opinion is not fear-based fiction, it's based on reality as I interpret it. I have heard that the moon / earth relationship is a near-perfect match, against amazing odds....its almost miraculous that they balance like they do. Also, the umbra doesn't? always touch earth during an eclipse, so the "spot" is not guaranteed.

You're missing the point. The point is that, dependig on where you are, there IS a spot on earth where the eclipse is perfect. THAT's what matters. If the? moon were any bigger or smaller or had a smaller or bigger orbit, there would be NO spot at all, regardless of where you were on the planet. That's statisticly nearly impossible.

I definitely know what you mean... but? this guy didn't have two failed businesses. His net worth in August of 2000, was $1.3 billion. And he only started the businesses because he needed the money to continue his research in Neuroscience and machine learning (Since his doctorate proposal was turned down when no professors were doing this type of work) That being said -after the whole economic collapse, he's net worth has dropped, but is still around $400-500 million.

As for monkeys being studied, well, personally I don't care that much. It's harsh but not really so much more than if they'd lived in the wild either. I think they should do scientific research on death row prisoners. Much could be gained.

You make a valid and noble point - but I think you are being pessimstic. If a thinking machines existence might be exquisite torture - then how about an insect - Based on only a human perspective you can say that what you do not know cannot torment? you. An ant knows only being an ant - so a machine knows only being a machine. Why should that be torment? What I'm saying is that we don't yet know what consciousness is and so it may be unwise to charge in head first, so to speak. I'd hate to create something, self aware, whose existence is exquisite torture just to improve the quality of my life. You may well be correct but I think caution is required? here.
