You aren´t wrong saying there´re still great bands out there. However, most of them I think they are because of their technicality. I may be wrong, but at least a lot of guitarist today seem to? come out from a school of technical players. Music from the seventies was more independant, each player sounded as himself. But we can all enjoy good creations yet and that´s promising and faithful. :)

I agree to certain extent to your comment, but you must also realize not everybody has the intellect to appreciate compositions, or art in general, of this caliber, hence you can't really blame them? for not doing it. Besides the point our educational system don't help neither in the pursue of an artistic development, due to budget cuts from our city gvmnts. Here is the sound and virtuosity of a band who never did anything "over the top" but instead used simple but often tricky time signatures to hi-lite Andy Latimer's jazz-rock tour-de-force guitar playing. The entire band play as a "unit", extensions of themselves into one spacey / trippy and? ONE OF A KIND sound. Thank God for the Internet as I came across their box set ECHOES. I thought, back in the early 70s, would Camel members ever foresee their relevance to this very grand day!!!!!

I hope you realize heavy metal isn't popular in the U.S. Plus heavy metal is actually hard as hell dependent on the group, look up bands like Opeth and Necrophagist and that will be true talent, but I do agree this is a true master piece that is quite underrated. Here in NY,? pack of Newport 100s ran me nearly 11.00 today. The cheapest cigarettes I saw were for 8 and change. Only 2 years ago, a pack was around 5 bucks. The prices are just going up at crazy rates. I wouldn't be surprised to see them for 20.00 in the next 5 years. I'm just saying, if you smoke a pack a day, which you'll end up working your way up to, you'll be paying 300 a month for cigarettes (In NY). But it's expensive other places, too.

One of the? best songs I've heard in a long while. Great groove, great emotion, wonderfully restrained and controlled. Almost feels like it wants to burst out but the fact it doesn't adds tension and beauty to make it all the better. Haven't heard this album from Camel but love it already. I have long said that this song might be the best piece of progressive rock ever? written. It has all the typical ingredients of a prog rock song, all in five minutes. Irregular time signatures, interesting lyrics, changes in tempo, great drumming and guitar work, and use of non-regular instruments (saxaphone) a great keyboard solo. It does all this without having to resort to self indulgance or pointless noodling. And it really does sound great. In short, a masterpeice.

hey glad you liked them! they have different "patches" in their music. "Not of this world", "window of life", "the world" and "the masquerade? overture" are pink floyd/camel-like, "Believe" is a bit more modern and the last one "Pure" is heavy with genesis-like influences. If you like the vocal harmonies of Yes and their music you might want to check out The Flower Kings as well! :) As for pendragon's vocals, it takes a while to get used to, the music is definetly worth it though!!

Loved this clip. I read afterwards that at first is the moog wasn't working properly so Peter played the opening keyboard phrase on the organ instead. At 2:20 the damn thing started to play but was tottaly unstable so? he fiddled but gave up and went back to the organ. Good stuff :-) My Pub band played this for years :-)

Well, it's personal obviously, but I think the first 2 albums - Camel and Mirage - are the best, and then they probably got less good with each successive album. I preferred the rock stuff. As they became increasingly jazzy, I felt they lost their edge. I saw them 3 times in the 70s - would have seen this tour. I loved Camel - Mirage is one of my favourite records. But that jazzy direction - was never going to be commercial for them.?
