Brilliant lyrics, conveys the great affection? for Elvis. Of course - as I'm sure someone else has mentioned - the song and guitar part are based on Mississippi John Hurt's version of 'Spike Driver Blues.' That song was about John Henry, the railroad spike driver, but Elvis is more relevant to us today, so a nice update on the tradition. I've always believed that getting the right two voices together is THE most important aspect off a flawless harmony. They can both have their PhD's? in vocal music, and that's not as important. They can individually have incredible voices, but that's not as important. One or both can even have only a mediocre voice alone, and that doesn't really matter. But when they sing together, it creates such a sound of oneness and synergy as to be almost hypnotic. David and Gillian have this in spades.

It does us all good to remember where we? come from. My grandparents/greatparents) from the North/Midwest (Canada - the Eastern Townships - dirt farmers/Nebraska) but grew up comfortably in Connecticut. I feel a strong connection to my roots though.

The accent she originally used? as Scully in XF was her real accent that she also used in real life. She only fell back into her British accent after moving back to the UK after Xfiles was over. She also had difficulty going back to her American accent in XF2 movie. Some words were not pronounced the way Americans do or how series Scully would've.

I would tend to agree. actually I spoke to Rowlings after the show and he also mentioned that he is studying multi-tasking, and? was at the time trying to learn a New Loutonians cover song. Further studies have shown that learning one song whilst playing another song are not really complimentary activities.

I like to think David's played this song much better on other occasions. He was just "playing the goat" (as they say in Australia) at that show in Bonnaroo b'coz he was actually distracted, thinking about the cover song that Radiohead were simultaneously playing of a Gillian Welch song on another stage at? the same festival at the same time. *woah! - headfuck* No wonder he slipped on a few notes. So weird.

Not sure about that? wank. Most fans of trad. folk and bluegrass have always known what a brilliant guitarist Rawlings is. Mainstream, well: Whatever. I heard his soloing first on Annabelle in the late '90s on their first album and there was no doubt I was listening to a guy who'd absorbed everything great in bluegrass flatpicking, but with blues and a modern take... And that Epiphone has that lovely, biting, woodsy tone of those early solid-spruce Gibson archtops.
