Can you help a fellow out? I randomly decided I? wanted to be an optometrist. I originally was into graphic design... I'm thoroughly interested in eyes and find much enjoyment in learning about them and everything... But I'm somewhat tied into my Biology major at this point so I don't see switching majors. Handsome Idiot,? no one is trying to prevent you from doing anything. This video was posted by the author to inform clueless fools, such as you, that optometry is not what they think it is. If you buy into the false advertising put out by the AOA and the new schools, great - go for optometry. Don't say that you wish someone had warned you when you're 200K in debt, working 5 different PT jobs as a contractor paying 16% of your income to social security, and you're working next to the lawnmowers.

oh man, i cried from fear and laughed while watching this. it's hilarious. i've been vigorously searching for insight that's not all sugar-coated, but lays out the true ideas when entering the field. currently doing a school research-project? on a career i want. i feel relieved to find this, even though it's like 3 hard punches to the gut, haha... thanks for the videos!

@ MrM5exy My goal is to tell people that optometry is being "sold" to them by people who stand to pforit from their entry.Private practice is what most want to pursue, but it's dying.Clueless academics like dmaino like to interject their opinions. Look at the facts, visit ODWire.org and SDN and read some threads optometry. Most practicing ODs are wary of anyone entering the field now. Future ODs will be underpaid? and overworked. If you're ok with that, go for it.

Dominik, you're an old man who still thinks he lives in the optometry of the 80s. You've no idea what I have or haven't accomplished in my career. I make a decent living as an OD, but future grads will have a much harder time doing so after buying an even more expensive OD. You're nothing more than an old academic who's out of touch with reality. There's a novelty. By the way, love the ridiculous Shakespear getup in your? photo. Maybe you "putt from the ruff" like he did? Sure looks like it.

@Southernflounder, Ask yourself if an OD provides a solid return and give some numbers to back it up. Where do MOST grads go now, PP or commercial? Pay has dropped 21K since '07 and cont to drop. People are herding? into the profession like lemmings, completely unaware of what's ahead. No one goes into optometry thinking "I really want to work at WalShart!" I don't deny that there are folks out there who get good jobs. Professions are not defined by exceptions, they're defined by the norm.
