Very inspirational. But poverty affects not only in developing countries such as? dominican republic, nigeria, philippines and so forth, they also occur in highly developed countries as well. Take the time to volunteer at a homeless shelter or a free clinic and you'll appreciate how much you have.

The absolute measure of poverty seriously needs to be adjusted. If it were, the poverty rate would actually be much higher, because the cost of? living is only going up and wages are not, and there are no jobs. It's sad, the government needs to do a serious better job of helping its people. Financing a college education is one, giving people the chance to go on to college, instead of just 'training' people for a job; a job that there won't be enough of and will pay very low.

Well yes, I agree with you there; for most of history humanity has been dirt poor. But if you want to talk about the bigger picture then, quite literally, prehistory and early humans are part of the bigger picture. You can't talk about poverty and wealth until after humans settled so I take exception to their point about early humans qualifying as poor, they survived? with as much dignity as any other animal species - I could argue the first settlers, dying early deaths from tooth decay, didn't.

The bigger picture is that for most of the history of history humanity has been dirt poor. Most of the population were involved in food production. We didn't have all this other stuff like washing machines and cars and running water. That is why after the industrial revolution population exploded because then your subsistence didn't rely on your ability to grow food. someone else could do that? for you.

I think that this video is trying to give the bigger picture. Yes we obviously have to think about poverty and how to help poor people around the world. But in my opinion the best way to do that is to bring those people the free market so that they are able to specialize because when you have to get your own food you can't do much else. A couple hundred years ago? 95% of people were farmers, now (in the U.S. at least) only 5% of people are farmers.

Because while the Native Americans might have been healthier and fitter they didn't have frigates and guns and cathedrals and all of these other things that have to do with wealth. I'm not saying we would be better off as hunter gatherers, but you can't use them as an example of poverty - any? more than you can use rabbits - to support the notion that it has always been with us, part of the natural order and so we shouldn't feel so guilty about it. I guess the chief difficulty I have with the video is that it is inconsistent with history. There is and has been for our lifetimes a robust and viable market for property and land. Not all assistance programs are alike and not all taxes are alike. I'm against redistribution of wealth via a tax on income and giving it to the poor. I see no problem with a flat tax and some safety nets. SSI was supposed to be a? trust fund that couldn't be touched for anything other than retirement funds. Very different than welfare. Schiff is not wrong as he is looking at long term investment where gold and silver are stable and will always have value. Those ZROZ bonds and SPX can tank and make? you lose big. I could litterally go on about where and what people should invest in, of course people will flock to high return investments. They actually have done something similar to what the fed did by giving a 750 billion euro resue package to ease the debt problem. Unfortunatly this does not boost confidence in government bonds and the problem got bigger? because its now threatening Italy and Spain. Plus the US's rating has already been down graded and is in the same situation. The US and Europe are insolvent and have just been buying time to elude the inevitable collapse.

Printing more money will not stimulate the economy, the cause is that places like Greece took on too much debt and caused creditors to lose confidence. Governments can restructure their debts, but they will be forced to take austerity measures to do so. The best stimulus is to reduce regulations on businesses.

What you dont seem to understand is that the government also borrows from the fed, how else could? the government function on 60-70 trillion in unfunded liabilities. Thats how more money comes into circulation which not only went to bailouts, but all the government programs and payroll for public workers. Inflation robs the value of your savings because it decreases the value of the money. How can you not know that? You seem to think we just landed in this mess. US bonds are low because the Fed and other central banks keep buying them. The US will collapse, because there is no way it can pay back its debts. Just a matter of time. In 1920, the US slashed its spending with 50% and the Fed didn't? print a damn thing. It all was over in a year. The cause of 1929 crash was money printing, and had they just let the recession pass, it would have been over in a year or two. But they didn't, they intervened, and printed money.
