Yes, we are wealthier than we were back then. Just 10 years ago, it was some what uncommon to have a cell phone. 15 years ago, it was rather rare. Today, it's rare *not* to have a cell phone. Is a cell phone required? No. Not at all and I still know people who don't have one. Same thing can be said about computers. Heck even owning? a movie library (purchased) was rare. Today people buy DVDs, Blurays, and computers. These things are luxuries, that a short time ago, was reserved for the rich.

We are not any wealthier now than we were then. We have made improvements in comfortable living and technology, yes, but that is not synonymous with wealth. If you account for inflation, our federal budget is roughly what it was one hundred years ago. As I stated, Mr. Whittle ignores? this. Wealth, that is, monetary wealth, is in fact a finite structure. But I'm talking global. lets? face it global resources are limited we need to keep them sustainable, and the low lying fruits are gone. or we will fail as a civilization. You obviously didn't actually watch the video. The base of his argument is that wealth is not a finite thing. The left typically believes that wealth is like a pie and the rich people have the majority of the pie, thus leaving little for everyone else. Mr. Whittle's argument(and truth) is that wealth is not a? finite resource. We create and expand it every single day, and thus, there is no cap on what is available for your to acquire.

Also, there's no such thing as "consumption value" as you claim, falsely. Value arises from economic relation in which one thing bears to another in exchange. Value results from the expression of a ratio of importance between two commodities. Value of thing gets expressed in the amount swapped? for it in a sale. You seem to indicate that "wealth" is defined as the exchangeability of an item in the marketplace. Okay, you completely disregarded my question, 100% of it. I've heard all of those tired silverbug arguments before. Gold is money, silver is not. Thats just the way it is. It doesn't matter that gold is hoarded and not used for anything, its actually a GOOD thing because that means the price is stable, unlike silver. Also, gold and silver won't be traded for commodities in an economic collapse, only other commodities.? And if gold was traded, I'd just snip up a gold chain, other jewelry. Duh.

Im an analyst at a fairly large fund for high networth invidividuals. We measure risk in investments and these people know how risky we are. They are young and old. But the difference here is, they are all very wealthy. The average Joe would never invest money in as risky ways as these people do, because? relatively they have much more to lose.

Milton never said no one would ever invest. He said people would have a much lesser incentive to invest if all of their money was going to be taken from them when they die. They might as well budget the rest of their lives to end up with zero assets at the time of their death.
