Wrong,? FDR's programs extended the recession into a depression. As far as the "madman in Europe" goes, because he lost the war look at Europe now. Millions of ungrateful sand negros invading it, sucking off the system and ruining Europe.
By: JessePrower. on 08 May 12, 05:36:14
"Never got us out of the depression" lol. His programs WORKED. Unemployment went DOWN during most of his presidency, bar the second depression that hit midway through, but the loss was contained and repaired. And we got out of the depression through WWII, which FDR was commander-in-chief back for most of that war. A war which we won and stopped a madman from taking over all of Europe and possibly the world. Recovery? from a depression takes a long-ass time, and wars help speed it up.

Thanks to liberal policy the world economy is crashing. We must do two things to? stop the meltdown NOW!!! Firstly, we need to raise all payroll taxes 10% for one year. We also need to stop (right now) wasteful handout programs like medicare, social security, unemployment,, etc. and lower the minimum wage to $2/hr so we can compete with China for jobs. I will work with Cantor, Paul Ryan, Scott Walker and my other republican colleagues and take immediate action on these proposals. bless the GOP!

"Democrats furiously oppose Walker because public employees unions are transmission belts, conveying money to the? Democratic Party. Last year, $11.2 million in union dues was withheld from paychecks of Wisconsin's executive branch employees and $2.6 million from paychecks at the university across the lake. Having spent improvidently on the recall elections, the Wisconsin Education Association Council, the teachers union, is firing 40 percent of its staff." --George Will, Aug. 24, 2011

Did you read my other comment I explained how if someone who made 50k a year and no mortgage and payed taxes he would have 37500$ after taxes and then he spent it all. Vs the national sales tax if he kept the 50k spent the 37500$ that he normally would under a progressive tax system he would pay? he would have 3875 in the bank left. I do not see how this negatively affects the middle class
By: Bakmoon. on 24 Aug 11, 15:18:38
How would a sales tax fix that problem? No matter how you dice it, replacing federal income taxes with a national sales tax greatly shifts the tax burden on those with lower incomes. Maybe the system would encourage investment; I'm not a psychic who can predict the future, but screwing the poor to create economic growth isn't the way to go.? It seems to me that your are throwing out the baby with the bathwater.
By: dukee155. on 24 Aug 11, 01:48:35
The European model is having really low corporate taxes but high personal taxes.? This encourages investment this is why corporations invest in Europe because corporate income tax this is how GE and other corporations pay little to no US corporate income taxes. Then the owners or ceos could live in The USA and pay personal income tax at a lower rate than in europe. This is the problem with income taxes and why I think they should be abolished and replaced with a national sales tax
By: jahs389. on 24 Aug 11, 00:35:01
There are a number of ways to play with percentages to help or hurt people. What is generally the most progressive and doesn't hurt the poor, while also proving a large amount of revenue necessary is to start taxing income earned above a certain number, usually adjusted poverty line. Tax that income at lets say 10% for the first 10000, then 15% for the next then thousand, and so no racketing up to 39% for money over? 250k under Clinton, but I would go toward ~55% for $ over 1mil.
By: Bakmoon. on 24 Aug 11, 00:00:10
But a sales tax is a *regresive*, meaning that the poorer you are the *larger* percent of your income gets eaten up by the tax. As unfair to the poor as it is, if it came right down to it, I would prefer a flat tax to? replacing income tax with a sales tax.
By: dukee155. on 23 Aug 11, 13:41:47
This system is better because with the regular income tax the money gets taken out of their pockets first and then they get to keep what is left. so if someone earns 50k under our current system and doesn't have a mortgage they will have 37500$ after tax and they will spend all of it VS the national sales tax where they keep all of there money and spend 37500 of it after the sales tax they will have 3875 in the bank still.?
By: jahs389. on 23 Aug 11, 12:02:55
A flat sales tax on everyone? is absolutely unequal because in order to survive everyone must spend a minimum amount on groceries, mortgage, etc. So on effective income you tax the poor more as they need to spend virtually 100% of their income on necessities while the wealthy can use their money to invest and accrue more wealth.
By: dukee155. on 23 Aug 11, 03:41:51
I do agree there is? some problems with the flat tax like if we lower it to 10% for all that means that if I give someone $1 that will have to be taxed because all income will be subject to tax. A better system is a national sales tax where when you buy stuff you have to pay taxes on it.
By: calimar28. on 23 Aug 11, 02:20:04
But WWII did force production to rise, and it did create jobs...so I'll give? WWII partial credit for getting us out of the depression, and housing after WWII for finishing the job. But what do you want us to do? Get into a major war so we can get out of this recession?
By: jahs389. on 22 Aug 11, 01:42:48
a) The president and even congress have significantly less influence on the economy as people think. Moreover, there efforts both good and bad have a lag. What? predominately got us out of the depression was the high demand created by WWII. Also, I believe numerous economist, including nobel winners, Krugman and Stiglitz would disagree that spending absolutely helps stimulate the economy, and job recovery.
By: calimar28. on 22 Aug 11, 01:37:08
Right, but why be concerend with what? FDR wanted anyway? He was a terrible president, never got us out of the depression (because he didnt know how the economy works, same as Obama) and thought the answer was to spend...which kept us in the depression. There is ONE example of a terrible recession that a president pulled us out of and quickly, and that is President Harding in 1922 by cutting taxes 50% and spending 50%. Obama is just following FDR's failed policies.

By: Bakmoon. on 21 Aug 11, 01:40:43
Kim Simac doesn't seem very responsible to me. She didn't pay those state property taxes and had that tax warrent out against her... Not someone who I'd trust in? public office.
By: Bakmoon. on 21 Aug 11, 01:38:51
And a flat tax is unfair because the people in the lower income brackets don't have the same ability to pay as? that of the higher brackets. Also, giving a break to the lower brackets is better for the economy because people with less money have a higher marginal propensity of consumption (for those who don't know what that means, it means that if you give a tax break to a lower income person, more of that money will make it into the economy that if you gave it to a rich person.)
By: Bakmoon. on 21 Aug 11, 01:34:50
But that kind of growth isn't sustainable forever. Eventually, it will level off. The question is when. And don't go saying that they will pass us up before they level off because there is no evidence to? support that.

Remember to get out and Vote tomorrow! If you are in Oneida, Menominee, Marinette, Lincoln, Forest, Vilas or Florence, Counties and you believe Wisconsin is on the right track finally, cast your vote for Kim Simac. If you are in Kenosha County cast your vote for Jonathan Steitz. The full might of the countries unions tried to buy and bully elections in Wisconsin. Show the? country that Wisconsin stands up to Union Bullies and coward senators who flee the state instead of doing their jobs!

This is why they are still a developing economy I do agree they do not have a standard of living higher than ours yet but in the future they will. Also the Chinese citizens are not being forced to work? for multinationals they are doing it because it gives them a better wage than working on some farm in rural China. If you compare the incomes between rural Chinese and urban Chinese urban has a better standard. It is not as good in the usa but someday they will
